Florida Waterways Dance Project is a manifestation of the relationship of water and art and our responsibility to protect and nourish them both. Water is more than a geological link; it's also a metaphor for life's flow, for the inevitability of change and for the essential human need for connection. From the Panhandle to Jacksonville, Gainesville to Tampa, Palm Beach to Miami, Florida has nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate arts programs as well as an extensive system of magnet schools with quality training in the arts. We will be creating a performance with dance, music and visual art that will unite Florida through its waterways, by showcasing the depth and breadth of the arts in its educational institutions. Simultaneous performances will be happening at each location based on the common theme of water. Art, like water, is essential for life itself. In creating this simultaneous performance we will also live stream it via the internet in order to reach a much broader audience.

Miami River Photo

Site for New World School of the Arts, Miami-Dade College, Conchita Espinosa Academy, South Miami Middle School
This is a photo of the Miami River from Jose Marti Park where we'll be dancing.  I have more photos and will begin to put them up for everyone to see.  We now have a commitment from the New World High School choir, so we'll be having 52 voices singing for us.  I'm very excited.   Slowly things are coming together, but it's alittle scary at times too.  This is just a short note but I'd love to use this blog to share our processes with one another.  I'll post the photos that you've sent me as well, this is my first attempt and I'm excited that it worked!
